An important factor needed to analyze fuel consumption is the heating and cooling load due to outside temperature.
The unit of measure used is the Degree Day. One heating degree-day is given for each degree that the daily mean temperature departs below the base of 65°F or 65°F - (the daily high temperature - the daily low temperature).
For this chart Degree Days were calculated daily and totaled for the month.
Interpreting the data: High numbers indicate cold months. Low numbers indicate mild months.
Negative numbers indicate hot summer months where the mean temperature is consistently above 65°F.
You will note that the annual trend between 2006 to 2007 colder, which requires more heating and less cooling.
2007 was 19% colder than 2006. 2008 was 8% colder than 2007.
